The cheap handheld device will come with an internet browser, multimedia player, PDF reader and the ability to video conference. It will tap into a market that previously was unable to afford a computer in the country. The Linux-based computing tool will be most useful to students, who will now be able to enjoy all of the tools that computer-users often take for granted.
“The aim is to reach such devices to the students of colleges and universities, and to provide these institutions a host of choices of low-cost access devices around $35 or less in near future,” said one individual at the human resources ministry.
